After taking the first game of today’s doubleheader 3-1, the White Sox followed by blanking the Yankees 5-0 on Sunday Night Baseball this evening. Michael Kopech and TA led the way in what was a fun matchup for the South Siders!
Michael Kopech was absolutely dominate in this one, throwing seven innings of one hit baseball. He was perfect through 5.2 innings, but catcher Rob Brantly broke up the perfect game with a double in the sixth inning. After Kopech finished his dazzling seven innings, Matt Foster came on in relief, working a clean inning. In the ninth, Reynaldo Lopez shut the door, allowing a leadoff double but nothing else to finish off the doubleheader sweep!
The offense was far from perfect, leaving nine men of base, but they once again started showing some life. With two on and two out in the eighth inning, the team looked set to strand baserunners in yet another inning. However, Andrew Vaughn would be the first of several heroes in the eighth inning, lining a base hit back up the middle to score the game’s first run in Jose Abreu. Reese McGuire would follow with a single of his own, setting up the dramatic three-run homer by Tim Anderson that gave the White Sox plenty more cushion than they needed.
At the end of the day, it’s a Sox Sweep in the Bronx! It’s a great feeling, and Kopech sat down the Yanks on National TV. With the win Sox are over .500 once again, moving to 21-20. Maybe these two wins in the Bronx are a turning point for the ball club and could be the start of something special. With Lance Lynn coming back, and Johnny Cueto pitching like his old self, this team could be special.
W: Michael Kopech (1-0) | L: Jonathan Loaisiga (1-2)

Once again, hats off to Michael Kopech. He finally records his first win of 2022! He was nearly perfect, and his no-no bid ended after a Rob Brantly double. Kopech threw 92 pitches, 65 of them for strikes with 16 swinging strikes. Essentially Michael Kopech did retire 27 Yankees in a row….just not in the same game. In the May 15th start 7 days ago he retired the final 13 hitters he faced, and in this one he retired the first 14 hitters, and that is 27 in a row!
Tim Anderson: 3-for-5, 3 RBI, 1 R
AS TA GOES WE GO! TA has been the spark at the top of the lineup all year. He was booed all day today in the Bronx after the altercation on Friday between him and Yankee third-baseman Josh Donaldson. In the 8th TA put the game to bed and hit a 3-run shot to close it out,.
Andrew Vaughn: 2-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 R
Vaughn got the biggest hit of the game with 2 outs. That scored Abreu giving the Sox a late 1-0 lead.
