White Sox 6, Rays 5: Early Offensive Surge Leads to Series Win

by Joe Binder

An offensive power surge in the early going carried the White Sox to a series win in Tampa.

Jake Burger opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning, and the rest of the bats followed to knock Rays’ starter Ryan Yarbrough out in the second with a six-run advantage. Though Lucas Giolito appeared sharp to begin, a four-run sixth for Tampa Bay made this game a nail-bitter for its remainder. Luckily, the trio of Aaron Bummer, Kendall Graveman, and Liam Hendriks were lights out to finish off the weekend affair.

With the victory, the White Sox improve to 25-27. They now sit in third place, a half-game behind the Cleveland Guardians and five games behind the Minnesota Twins.

W: Lucas Giolito (4-2) | L: Ryan Yarbrough (0-3) | S: Liam Hendriks (16)
