It has been a tough September for the White Sox, as the team lost five straight games to start off the month. This happens to coincide with the new Chris Getz tenure, as he was officially announced as the Senior Vice President and GM on August 31.
However, finally, the bats were hot today with four doubles and three home runs. Andrew Vaughn hit a two-run homer while Yoan Moncada and Oscar Colas hit solo shots. After all the home runs, Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI single to drive in Korey Lee to buy some insurance runs and close out the game. The most impressive part was that all three home runs happened within five batters. All White Sox hitters today recorded a hit other than second basemen Lenyn Sosa.
On the pitching side, the offensive output finally matched a solid mound performance. Touki Toussaint did what he needed to do to help out the offense. He had six strikeouts on only two hits and two earned runs. He even kept the walks down to three, which is a bit high, but not too bad considering the last couple of games he has had. Lane Ramsey had a solid hold before Aaron Bummer gave up a two-run home run to bring the game closer in the eighth. Luckily, Gregory Santos relieved Bummer to close out the eighth and Bryan Shaw struck out two in the ninth to collect the save and a White Sox win.
With the win, the Sox are 54-86 on the season.
W: Touki Toussaint (3-7) | L: Jordan Lyles (4-16) | S: Bryan Shaw (2)
