The White Sox are set to have a much quieter offseason than last year, but Rick Hahn is always fielding offers that make sense from an organizational standpoint. Earlier today, the White Sox added to their bullpen by acquiring flame-throwing RHP Thyago Vieira from the Mariners in exchange for international signing bonus pool money.
Vieira was the number 8 prospect in the Mariners farm system according to MLB Pipeline. He now ranks at number 20 on the White Sox top 30 prospects list. His fastball sits at 97-100 MPH but he has ramped it up to touch 102 on the gun. The 24-year old righty pitched for Team Brazil at the 2013 World Baseball Classic and Team World in the 2017 All-Star Futures Game. In 2017, he posted a 2-4 record, 4.00 ERA and 1.296 WHIP in 54 innings between AA and AAA. Command and efficiency are the biggest challenges facing Vieira, but he will have an opportunity to prove himself in the White Sox organization.
