White Sox agree to multi-year contracts with Jason Benetti, Steve Stone

by Jordan Lazowski

Your favorite broadcast duo will be back in action in 2023 – and beyond.

The White Sox have announced multi-year contracts with Jason Benetti and Steve Stone to continue to be their NBC Sports Chicago TV broadcast team. Benetti’s contract was announced as a “multi-year option” being picked up, while Stone’s contract was described as a “multi-year” extension. As of now, it is unclear how long each of their contracts is for – beyond the statement of “multi-year.”

Benetti, who is a jack of all trades when it comes to broadcasting, will enter his eighth season in the White Sox’s broadcast booth. The propellor of the fan-favorite #SoxMath segment on broadcasts, Benetti has appeared with major networks such as ESPN, NBC, and most recently, FOX Sports. Across all three networks, he has covered sports like college basketball, college football, and Major League Baseball. At the end of this most recent NFL season, Benetti also did play-by-play for the Cardinals-Falcons and Panthers-Saints NFL matchups. Benetti will likely continue to miss White Sox games on occasion to fulfill his other obligations, with Len Kasper taking over his duties as previously.

Stone will enter his 16th season in the broadcast booth, though he is a well-known face in Chicagoland. The former Cy Young spent three seasons in uniform with the White Sox and has spent time as a broadcaster on both sides of town. Stone broke into broadcasting alongside Al Michaels on ABC’s “Monday Night Baseball,” just days after retiring as a player in 1982. He has been a full-time White Sox announcer since 2008.

One of the best broadcast duos will remain in place for the foreseeable future – something that should bring comfort to White Sox fans in a time of a lot of turmoil surrounding the club.

To me, Benetti is a very nice person, with a great voice. However, I miss the “Hawk”. The Hawk with his knowledge of the game and his relating stories of his past and interactions with past baseball stars made for very entertaining broadcasts. By comparison Benetti is boring and puts me to sleep i.e Sox Math. Resigning him is a big mistake.

Hawk is a legend but Benetti I feel is actually a great announcer. Bulls also got a new announcer recently and so it’s easy to compare/contrast them and Benetti just seems way better even at calling basketball games. Part of it is that Benetti actually seems like a Chicago sports fan instead of a guy just doing a job.
