White Sox announce 2025 player development staff

by Joe Binder

The White Sox have announced their player development staff and assignments for the upcoming 2025 season. This is the second year that Paul Janish will oversee the organization’s minor-league operations as the director of player development.

There is once again little change amongst who will be managing within the organization, though assignments have changed for nearly everyone. Given Justin Jirschele’s full-time appointment to the major league staff, Sergio Santos will move to Triple-A Charlotte, Guillermo Quiroz to Double-A Birmingham, Patrick Leyland to High-A Winston-Salem, Chad Pinder will come into Low-A Kannapolis and Daniel González will remain with the Arizona Complex League White Sox. Of the aforementioned list, Pinder is the only newcomer as he lands his first career managerial role with the Cannon Ballers.

Santos returns for his second season as a manager in the White Sox organization and first at Charlotte after winning the 2024 SL Championship with Birmingham. Quiroz enters his first season at the helm of the Barons after managing Winston-Salem in 2023-24. Leyland, who led Kannapolis to the 2024 Carolina League Championship Series, begins his first season with the Dash. Pinder enters his first season as a minor-league manager after playing 13 seasons of professional baseball from 2011-23, including seven (2016-22) with the Oakland Athletics. González returns for his third straight season as manager of the ACL White Sox.

Coordinators returning include Ryan Newman (field/infield), Matt Zaleski (pitching), Curt Hasler (assistant pitching), Alan Zinter (hitting), Danny Santin (assistant hitting) and Julio Mosquera (catching).

Mike Gellinger and Doug Sisson, who were on the Sox major-league coaching staff for the last two months of the 2024 season, have returned to the player development system. Gellinger will serve as the bench coach with the ACL White Sox, while Sisson will serve as a special assistant to the senior vice president/general manager.

Phil Nevin is also a notable addition as he begins his first season as part of the White Sox player development staff, serving as a special assistant. The hiring was first announced by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale nearly a month ago after the former Angels skipper failed to land the major league managerial job. Three of Nevin’s former Anaheim staff members already happen to be with the White Sox – bullpen coach Matt Wise, hitting coach Marcus Thames, and catching coach Drew Butera.
