White Sox bats were on fire tonight in a 12-1 blow out of the Baltimore Orioles. Manny Banuelos got the start tonight and did a great job going 4 scoreless innings, letting up 5 hits and punching out 4. Jose Abreu lit up the stat sheet going 3-6 with 5 RBIs and a home run. James McCann also did damage going 3-5 adding 4 RBIs and also a home run. He also picked a runner off at third with the bases loaded, defensively. Prior to the game Nicky Delmonico was called up from Triple-A today due to Eloy Jimenez being placed on the bereavement list after returning to the Dominican Republic following the loss of his grandmother.
Manny Banuelos and Orioles starter David Hess were having a pitchers duel up until the top of the fifth when who else but Tim Anderson stepped up to the plate and led off the inning with a double. Anderson advanced to third on a passed ball and then Nicky Delmonico got walked. With two runners on and nobody out, James McCann absolutely clobbered a 421-foot bomb to put the Sox up 3-0. Ryan Cordell then doubled but was thrown out on a fielders choice hit by Leury Garcia. Yoan Moncada walked, pushing Garcia to second and Jose Abreu came up to single for his first RBI and score Garcia. The Orioles would add a run off of Ryan Burr in the same inning off of a Trey Mancini double to make the score 4-1 after the 5th. Burr Pitched 1.2 innings letting up 1 earned run and striking out 1.

Then in the top of the 7th all 9 starters batted and the Sox added 4 runs onto their lead. Moncada singled to right and Abreu stayed piping hot with a home run to right to increase the lead to 6-1. The Orioles had trouble making easy plays committing 2 costly errors. One of which came off a Tim Anderson grounder where Orioles short stop Richie Martin threw the ball over third baseman Hanser Alberto’s head, scoring Yonder Alonso making it 7-1. With Anderson on second, James McCann followed the lead of Abreu staying hot, hitting a nice liner to center and scoring Timmy. Jace Fry stayed in the game to pitch a nice bottom of the 7th. Fry finished with 1.1 innings pitched, allowing 1 hit, no runs, and striking out 2.

Going into the top of the 8th, Sox hitters said “Why stop now?” and proceeded to bat through the order for the second inning in a row. In this inning White Sox hitters tee’d off on Orioles righty Miguel Castro. Leury started off the inning with a single to left and Moncada got walked on a full count. Castro could not get his command down and threw a wild pitch advancing Garcia and Moncada. Abreu came through again for the south siders with a nice single to left center making it 10-1. Castro then walked Yonder Alonso putting runners on first and second. Castro helped us out again by throwing another wild pitch advancing runners into scoring position again. This set up an Adam Engel single scoring Alonso and Abreu, and making the score 12-1. Carson Fulmer pitched one of his nicest relief outings of the season. Starting out the inning striking out Orioles best hitter Trey Mancini, Fulmer went on to finish with a stat line of 1 inning pitched, 0 hits, 0 walks, and 2 strike outs.
In the bottom of the 9th, Pedro Severino hit a garbage time solo home run off of Sox lefty Josh Osich with 1 out. Osich then proceeded to strike out the next 2 Orioles hitters to secure a 12-2 White Sox victory.
The White Sox lit up the score board tonight in Baltimore scoring 12 runs off of a whopping 15 hits. The Orioles scored 2 runs on 9 hits, leaving 8 runners on base. The White Sox looked dominant tonight and hope to carry that momentum into tomorrow night for game 2 of the series against the Orioles with Ivan Nova on the bump.
