White Sox fan dubbed as “Cane Guy” gets his own team-issued bobblehead

by Joe Binder

First, he provided the necessary spark for the White Sox in Game 3 of the 2021 ALDS. Now, he’s getting his own bobblehead.

Rob Holt, more commonly known as “Cane Guy” among the fanbase, turned himself into an instant celebrity this past October. The Northbrook native was caught by the FOX broadcast twirling his cane and seemingly casting a spell on the Astros during a crucial fourth-inning at-bat. Shortly after the cameras cut away, pitcher Michael Kopech fanned Houston designated hitter Yordan Alvarez to get out of the inning and kick off the viral sensation.

The scene quickly took social media by storm and fans at the ballpark in surrounding sections noticed. Team officials also capitalized on the moment and made sure Holt had special seats for Game 4. Unfortunately, the magic didn’t carry over the following afternoon but, nonetheless, we were left with a great story to tell.

On Friday morning, the White Sox circled back around to the iconic moment and unveiled a limited edition “Cane Guy” bobblehead on Twitter, fit with the twirling cane and all. The piece of memorabilia is part of an ongoing giveaway by the team to commemorate National Bobblehead Day. All you have to do to enter is retweet the below tweet by 11:59 p.m. CT on Wednesday, January 12th.

In most cases, the White Sox tend to focus on players for their bobblehead giveaways. Last season, we saw Yoan Moncada and Lucas Giolito among those featured, and notably Tim Anderson with his bat flip previously. On special occasions, other notable figures around the organization have been recognized such as organist Nancy Faust, legendary broadcaster “Hawk” Harrelson, and groundskeeper Roger Bossard. Given the rally that began after the spell was cast, Holt’s part in what was arguably the most electric game at Guaranteed Rate Field in recent years will now not soon be forgotten.

There’s no word yet on whether this item will be made available for purchase, though one could make the assumption that the answer is “yes” in some way or another. Maybe we’ll even see it as a special giveaway item once again during the upcoming season? Only time will tell.
