After three games in the Arizona League, 2019 first rounder Andrew Vaughn has been promoted to the Low-A Kannapolis Intimidators. The organization made the move official on social media early Thursday morning.

Vaughn completely tore up Arizona League pitching during his brief stint this week. The first baseman slashed .600/.625/.933 with a home run, two doubles, and four driven in. To go along with those nine hits in 15 at-bats, he also owned a 1.558 OPS. It’s an extremely small sample size, of course, but still impressive nonetheless.

Looking back to last year, the White Sox handled the California product very similarly to 2018 first rounder Nick Madrigal. If you remember correctly, the team’s No. 4 prospect spent just five games in the Arizona League before receiving his first promotion. Madrigal then went on to play just 12 games in K-Town before another move to High-A Winston-Salem. It’s hard to say whether Vaughn will continue along the same fast track. If his bat stays as hot as it did in Arizona, another jump to the Dash in the coming weeks would not be surprising at all.
There’s no word yet on when the 21-year-old will make his Low-A debut. The Intimidators are visiting the Augusta GreenJackets this weekend with first pitch for tonight’s game scheduled for 7:05 pm.

No surprise here. Andrew Vaughn’s path is nearly identical to the one that 2018 first round pick Nick Madrigal was on last year. Madrigal finished his first pro season at A+ Winston-Salem and Vaughn figures to do likewise. With an easier position to play in 1B it’s conceivable that Vaughn could see one of the quickest promotion ever to the White Sox for a positional player.
