The Chicago White Sox have hired Frank Menechino to be their next hitting coach. This move comes after the recent firing of former hitting coach Todd Steverson .
Menechino was the hitting coach for the White Sox Triple-A affiliate Charlotte Knights last season.
Before his year with the Knights, Menechino spent five years with the Marlins. Frank was the team’s assistant hitting coach for three seasons (2014-16) and the hitting coach for two (2017-18). During that span, he coached notable players such as Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna, Christian Yelich, and J.T. Realmuto.
The White Sox drafted Menechino in 1993 and in his playing career, he spent seven seasons as an infielder for the Athletics and Blue Jays from 1999-2005.
Menechino covets a lineup with huge aspirations going into next season with Tim Anderson winning the batting title, Jose Abreu leading the American League in RBIs, Yoan Moncada blossoming into the best hitter on the team, and even Eloy Jimenez hitting 31 home runs in his rookie campaign.
Despite finishing the year as a team 8th overall in AVG (.261), they finished 23rd in OBP (.314), 25th in SLG (.414) and 24th in OPS (.728). Menechino will look to help the team improve upon those numbers in 2020.
