Minor League Strength & Conditioning Coach

Position Summary:

The Chicago White Sox are hiring a Minor League Strength & Conditioning Coach. This is a full-time position that will be assigned to our Low A affiliate in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The coach will work closely with the White Sox Medical and Player Development Departments to optimize player health and performance outcomes during the return to performance process.

The coach will immediately report to Glendale, Arizona to learn our program, assist in all camps, and spring training. The coach will then be with our Low A affiliate for the entire season from April to mid-September and then assist with our organization off-season camps.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively within the Sports Performance Department in the disciplines of Sports Science, Performance Nutrition, Mental Performance, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training to develop holistic athlete centered programs.
  • Implementation and teaching of organization’s strength and conditioning program.
  • Prescribe and teach individualized physical development program based on athletes ongoing physical assessments throughout the year.
  • Knowledge, experience and willingness to learn and utilize various technologies (wearable and non-wearable).
  • Daily dynamic warm-up, mobility, movement prep, and speed development programs to prepare athletes for training sessions.
  • Implementation of daily conditioning protocols to maximize on-field health and performance.
  • Communicate plans, goals, and progress with players and staff members at specific times of the year. Generation of various reports.
  • Ability to interpret data and assist in research driven implementations that bridge the gap from the training room/weight room and onto the field.
  • Assist other medical staff when able and necessary with normal day-to-day operations.
  • Collaboration with all members of player development and display understanding of sprinting, pitching/throwing, and hitting biomechanics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, Master’s degree preferred (exercise science, physical education, biomechanics).
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS-NSCA).
  • Previous experience in professional baseball is preferred.
  • Passionate about the game of baseball and enhancement of associated players.
  • Previous experience working in an interdisciplinary high-performance environment.
  • Fluent in Spanish highly recommended but not required.
  • Excellent written, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Independent judgment and ability to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.

Assistant Performance Coach – Seasonal

Job Purpose:

The role of the Assistant Performance Coach is to aid the in-season sports performance staff at the Chicago White Sox and minor league affiliates. This support will be in a multitude of areas, based on the candidate’s skill set, and their projected career development pathway within professional baseball. Areas of focus will revolve around performance assessments, workload monitoring, data collection, on-floor coaching, and other areas of need.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling and execution of athlete assessments, ongoing in-season athlete monitoring, and data collection for Sports Performance, Sports Science and other baseball initiatives.
  • Collaboration with the Sports Science department to prepare and distribute player reports including:
    • Facilitation of meetings with sports performance staff and players to discuss player progress on an ongoing basis.
    • Support and integration of player plans throughout the championship season.
    • Preparation of reports for Applied Sports Science Manager, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Player Development leadership and front office staff.
  • Assistance in the execution of organization-wide research studies or programs at the affiliate level
  • Performance of administrative duties for sports performance and field staff including player travel, housing, per diem, MLB and baseball operations paperwork, and other team expenses.
  • Assistance with staff game coverage on an as needed basis to complete maintenance routines (including range of motion and recovery exercises) during game times.

  • Editing, keywording and archiving images captured
  • Creating galleries in PhotoShelter to be distributed to various departments and individuals
  • Assist in managing photo requests through Asana.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in both sports and event photography.
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week, based on the home baseball schedule.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends and holidays is required.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times and deadlines.
  • Experience with Canon camera’s preferred but not required.
  • Willing to travel off-site for various events.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be proficient in Photo Mechanic and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop & Lightroom)
