Following today’s Aaron Bummer extension, the White Sox announced another signing. The team and utility man Leury Garcia agreed to terms on a one-year, $3.5 million contract with a club option for 2021. The option is worth $3.5 million and includes a $250,000 buyout.

The 29-year-old has spent the past six years on the South Side, making an impact both offensively and defensively around the diamond. Last season, García slashed .279/.310/.378 with eight home runs, 27 doubles, 40 RBI and 93 runs scored over 140 games. While not overly impressive, this is a great player to have off the bench and filling in when guys need a day off.
Garcia will definitely be an interesting player to watch this spring at the second base position. He figures to be fighting with Danny Mendick for the starting spot should the team elect to send Nick Madrigal to Triple-A Charlotte to begin the year. Prior to the new deal, Garcia and the White Sox previously had agreed to terms on a one-year, $3.25-million contract on January 10th to avoid arbitration.
