After months of being handed bad news, the White Sox were able to deliver some positivity this afternoon.
Outfielder Eloy Jimenez has been medically cleared to resume baseball activities, the team said in a tweet. This phase of rehabilitation will take at least four weeks, and occur at the White Sox complex in Arizona. If all goes well, Jimenez could then be cleared for a rehab assignment with one of the minor league affiliates. No official timeline for his major league return has been given.
The 24-year-old is currently recovering from surgery to repair the ruptured left pectoral tendon he suffered during a Spring Training game. While the Sox originally set the expected time for him to be out at five to six months, they did come out later and say he could return to action earlier.
Based on the current info we were given, it seems as though Eloy could be starting a rehab assignment sometime around the All-Star break and then land back with the Sox in August. That’s best case scenario, of course, with a little bit of speculation added in. The team will likely provide a clearer window for his 2021 debut once he is cleared to begin a rehab assignment.
As for how Eloy’s handling it, he posted the following on Instagram this morning:
The English translation says, “Thank God for everything that decisions the other never disrupt your goals Almost back let’s go.”
