White Sox top catching prospect Edgar Quero is joining Repulik Sports, the two sides announced on Tuesday evening. Rafa Nieves, the Founder and CEO of the agency, shared the news on his personal social media accounts as well.
Established in March 2020, Republik Sports was started by Nieves after spending time at Beverly Hills Sports Council and Wasserman Media Group. The agency has several notable clients highlighted by Luis Castillo (Mariners), Jose Ramirez (Guardians), and Teoscar Hernandez (Dodgers). With Hernandez specifically, the Venezuelan agent recently had the last laugh and boasted the World Series champion’s stats in a now-viral tweet after originally receiving criticism for signing him to a short-term deal.
Quero, 21, is ranked fourth overall in the White Sox farm system by MLB Pipeline and our minor-league Managing Editor Michael Suareo. The catcher was the team’s prized possession in last year’s deadline deals, arriving in the trade that sent Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez to the Angels. Quero was one of the youngest players overall at the Double-A level in 2023 due to an overly aggressive promotion stemming from his time with the Angels. Despite this, he was able to hold his own offensively while improving defensively behind the plate.
In 2024, Quero seemed to recapture what made him successful back in 2022, as he has reestablished himself as a consensus Top 100 prospect in all of baseball. He was a force at the plate for the Double-A Birmingham Barons and received rave reports for his ability to work with the pitching staff. He earned a promotion to Triple-A in early July, where he found even more success with a .845 OPS. Given the success he had at the plate, combined with the strides he made defensively, it is clear that he will likely be the primary catcher for the White Sox beginning in early 2025.
