White Sox prospect Ky Bush to undergo Tommy John surgery

by Joe Binder

The White Sox are losing one of their pitching prospects for the 2025 season.

Chris Getz informed the media on Tuesday that left-hander Ky Bush will be undergoing Tommy John surgery. It is unclear when the injury occurred, though the prospect will have the procedure done on Wednesday.

Bush, 24, was acquired from the Angels along with catching prospect Edgar Quero for pitchers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez back in 2023. Ranked comfortably inside the White Sox’s Top 30 prospects across multiple publications, Bush possesses a solid arsenal and projects as a back-end starter for the club long-term.

Though he had a shaky 2023 campaign, the southpaw found success with Double-A Birmingham this past season. He delivered a 2.12 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 80.2 innings to earn himself a promotion to Triple-A Charlotte. While his success didn’t quite carry over in six games there, the White Sox still promoted Bush and gave him four major-league starts. He owned a 5.60 ERA over 17.2 innings pitched in his first taste of big-league action.

News of Bush’s injury is certainly unfortunate, especially as he was expected to make a number of MLB starts in 2025. Luckily, the farm system is well-stocked with young arms, many of which will see plenty of opportunities as the rebuild rolls on.

While we wish nothing but the best for the southpaw in his recovery, our team will monitor some other names that could emerge in his place.
