White Sox, Ticketmaster announce full refund of all 2020 tickets

by Sox On 35th Contributors

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the White Sox will be unable to welcome fans back to Guaranteed Rate Field for the foreseeable future. Because of this, the team officially announced in an email yesterday that previously purchased tickets will be refunded and are no longer valid for the upcoming 2020 season.

The news came just a day after Major League Baseball released its official schedule. It appears that this move by the Sox applies for all tickets, whether purchased individually or part of a season ticket plan. Fans should expect to see their ticket refunds in full, processed within the next 30 days.

“While we are all excited about the opportunity to play games this summer, we are sorry we won’t be able to welcome you back to the ballpark. The health and safety of our fans, players, and staff continues to be our top priority. Following guidance from elected officials and public health professionals, fans will not be allowed to attend games at Guaranteed Rate Field. As the public health situation evolves, we will continue to share updates with you and on whitesox.com.

Statement from the Chicago White Sox

The Sox also noted that all scheduled promotions, such as Elvis Night, Family Sundays, etc. have all been postponed to a later date. This could mean some of these promotions are run during the 2021 season, though the team said nothing is a definite just yet.

These ticket refunds are a long-awaited move by the White Sox, Ticketmaster, and other teams around the league who will follow and do the same. The reason why this took so long was likely due to the delay for official word on this season’s revised schedule, which when announced Monday, resulted in the cancellation of all games scheduled prior. Overall, this keeps fans happy so they don’t feel as if they’re losing money due to something out of their own control and the control of the MLB, but also builds a better fan and team relationship going forward.
