Two of the White Sox’s hottest prospects have earned themselves a promotion. Catcher Edgar Quero and infielder Brooks Baldwin have been two of the better hitters at the Double-A level. They are reportedly getting the chance to continue that success in Charlotte at the Triple-A level. This comes days after the Sox also reportedly informed pitcher Ky Bush that he will be joining the Triple-A Charlotte roster as well.
Edgar Quero is widely considered to be one of the best catching prospects in all of baseball. Acquired in the Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez trade last season, Quero has bounced back from an underwhelming 2023 season to reestablish himself as a premier prospect and catcher of the future for the White Sox. Currently ranked as the 73rd best prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, he has caught fire since June 1, slashing .371/.440/.606 and holding a 206 wRC+ in that timeframe. He has also recaptured some of the power he displayed back in 2022, hitting 12 home runs so far this season.
Quero has also received high praise for his abilities behind the plate, specifically for his ability to call games and work with the pitching staff down in Double-A. Initially viewed as an offense-first catcher, he has rounded out his skillset as he get closer to his MLB debut. Francys Romero first reported the news that Quero was being promoted to Triple-A.
Brooks Baldwin was not as highly regarded coming into this season but has put himself on the map with a breakout 2024 as one of the best hitters in Double-A. The 23-year-old middle infielder has hit .322 on the season and has shown off his defensive versatility, spending time at second base, third base, shortstop, and left field. He has also made an impact on the basepaths, swiping 16 bags through 74 games this season. Elijah Evans at Future Sox and Just Baseball had the news of Baldwin’s promotion first.
The Birmingham Barons’ roster has been one of the better minor league rosters throughout the entire 2024 season, so it is no surprise to see the impact players move through the ranks. Along with Quero, Baldwin, and Bush, we have already seen Bryan Ramos and Drew Thorpe make their MLB debuts after beginning the season on the Barons roster. With these moves, and the MLB draft approaching, expect to see more movement throughout the White Sox system.
