Noah Schultz isn’t the only new Baron in Birmingham.
According to Chase Ford of MiLB Central, the White Sox are also promoting SS Jacob Gonzalez to Double-A Birmingham. It is unclear if the White Sox will do any further MiLB shuffling at this time, but Drew Thorpe and Nick Nastrini are among those who might see themselves on the move to accommodate these additions.
It’s been a much better season for Gonzalez after hitting just .207/.328/.261 in his 2023 season with the organization. In almost the same amount of plate appearances this season (165) at a level higher than last year (A+), the middle infielder is hitting .273/.364/.399 with three home runs and more walks (19) than strikeouts (17).
A career .319 hitter in college at Ole Miss, last year’s first-rounder will now join many of the team’s top prospects at the Double-A level, including Jairo Iriarte, Drew Thorpe, Ky Bush, and Edgar Quero.
