White Sox trade Chuckie Robinson to the Angels

by Joe Binder

Less than a day after adding a veteran catcher, the White Sox have unloaded another.

The team announced on Wednesday afternoon that Chuckie Robinson has been traded to the Angels in exchange for cash considerations. The White Sox previously acquired Matt Thaiss from the Cubs on Tuesday night, making Robinson the odd man out with the club needing a roster spot.

Robinson, 30, spent most of this season with Triple-A Charlotte where he slashed .246/.292/.382 with seven homers and 32 RBI. After getting his contract selected this summer, he hit .129/.197/.129 with five walks and two runs scored over 26 major league games with the Sox. He also threw out 21.4% of attempted base-stealers, which ranked third among American League catchers who had a minimum of 20 stolen-base attempts against them.

The White Sox will have no shortage of catchers entering the 2025 campaign. With Korey Lee a lock for the major league roster, it’s likely Thaiss splits time with him behind the plate until the team decides to promote one or both of their catching prospects – Edgar Quero and Kyle Teel.

Robinson’s trade notably opened up a spot for the White Sox, who have since signed reliever Bryse Wilson to a major-league deal. The 40-man roster is once again maxed out at 40 following the move.
