We’ve got rumors, roster moves, and more on this final Monday of October. Here’s the latest in the world of White Sox baseball.
White Sox look like “consensus” top suitor for J.D. Martinez
In a report that was originally published by Rob Bradford of WEEI, the White Sox are believed to be the “consensus” top suitor for J.D. Martinez. Before you get your hopes up, the 32-year-old will still have to opt-out of the remainder of his three-year, $62.5 million deal in order for a signing to even become a possibility. While all of the other teams in a potential Martinez sweepstakes are not entirely known, the Rangers are believed to be one of them. Our Nik Gaur speculated the possible suitors in an article published at the beginning of September.
Four players outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte
The White Sox announced this evening that they have outrighted four player to Triple-A Charlotte. They are left-handed pitcher Manny Banuelos, outfielder Ryan Cordell, and infielders Ryan Goins and Matt Skole. Following the conclusion of the 2019 World Series, all of the aforementioned players will become minor-league free agents. The 40-man roster has decreased to 35 as a result.
Kannapolis Single-A affiliate rebrands; merchandise flies off shelves
Last Wednesday, the Single-A affiliate of the White Sox revealed their new identity at a special public event. The team, formerly known as the Intimidators, rebranded to become the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. In a Monday afternoon press release, the Cannon Ballers followed up by saying they have seen a very high demand for the new gear and expect to keep a downtown retail store open for the foreseeable future.

“We have received an overwhelming response as fans love the new look and colors of the Cannon Ballers. It’s obvious that the public wants to check out the new gear firsthand, so we’re thrilled to keep our store in between the Gem Theatre and the new ballpark construction site open for many more weeks to come,” explained team GM Matt Millward.
For White Sox fans who cannot make the trip down to K-Town, the merchandise is available online at KCBallers.com. We’re fans of the change here at Sox On 35th so we recommend you check out what the team has to offer!
The rebrand comes ahead of the new stadium for the team, which is expected to be complete in time for Opening Night on Thursday, April 16th at 7:00 PM.
