The day got started with some unfortunate news regarding two anonymous players who tested positive for COVID-19. Luckily, Luis Robert and Carlos Rodon helped drown out the bad with some good. Here’s the latest news, notes, and media from Sunday’s Summer Camp workouts!
Two White Sox players test positive for COVID-19
The White Sox announced this morning that two players have tested positive for COVID-19. Both individuals are described as being asymptomatic and have been placed in isolation.
An important update that followed this initial announcement was that both players were identified during the intake process. They were never at the ballpark or any activity prior to isolation, squashing fears that more players may have been exposed.

Luis Robert, Edwin Encarnacion make first appearances of Summer Camp
White Sox top prospect Luis Robert and newly acquired designated hitter/first baseman Edwin Encarnacion made their first appearances of Summer Camp earlier this morning. Robert particularly impressed all during his batting practice, including outfielder Eloy Jimenez.
For the Encarnacion crowd, here’s a shot of him taking part in some drills at first.
Carlos Rodon throws live batting practice
Left-hander Carlos Rodon threw 45 pitches in the equivalent of three innings of work this afternoon. Based on social media posts, it looks like the southpaw tossed in the makeshift bullpen along the left field wall before taking to the main mound for simulated action.
This is definitely a great sign to see from Rodon, who is nearly 14 months removed from last May’s Tommy John surgery. In a media session this evening, the White Sox starter talked about today’s workout and more.
Jose Abreu meets with media
Following this morning’s workout, Jose Abreu met with the media. Here are some of his notable quotes:
This week’s pitching schedule
It appears there was some miscommunication on the pitching schedule, though we now have a better idea of when arms will throw. Giolito, who Renteria said would throw today, will instead be pitching in a simulated game on Wednesday. Steve Cishek will then open a intrasquad game on Thursday, followed by today’s pair of southpaws – Dallas Keuchel and Carlos Rodon – throwing again on Friday. The group will be rounded out by Reynaldo Lopez and Dylan Cease giving it a go on Saturday.
Renteria also noted that Rodon should be thought of along the same lines as other starters in this stretch leading up to the season.
Dallas Keuchel speaks with the media
Since this came out after yesterday’s update was published, I’d like to throw in some quotes from lefty Dallas Keuchel.
Hard not to love the confidence in that last tweet.
