The latest news and rumors surrounding the Chicago White Sox.
Rosenthal: White Sox sign LHP Ross Detwiler to a minor league contract
Free agent LHP Ross Detwiler agreed to a minor league with the White Sox on Wednesday, per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
Detwiler appeared in 18 games, starting 12 of them last season for the White Sox. In that span, the veteran went 3-5 with a 6.59 ERA, 46 strikeouts, 27 walks, 1.622 WHIP, and -0.5 WAR over the course of 69.2 innings.
This signing adds pitching depth and should not be seen as the final solution for a starting rotation spot. As our Jordan Lazowski reminded fans yesterday, the order in which White Sox sign or trade players does not matter. More moves should be anticipated by the end of this offseason as the team is still in pursuit of other big-name targets via trade and free agency.
Gammons: David Price rumors continue to swirl
MLB insider Peter Gammons relayed industry reports stating the White Sox have interest in a David Price deal that may also include outfielder Andrew Benintendi. In return, the Red Sox want Nick Madrigal and/or Andrew Vaughn. Gammons pointed out that money appears to be the biggest problem as this potential moved has stalled over the past 10 days or so.
Price went 7-5 over 22 starts last season for Boston with 128 strikeouts, 32 walks, 4.28 ERA, 1.314 WHIP, and 1.9 WAR over 107.1 innings. As for Benintendi, the 25-year-old slashed .226/.343/.431 with 13 home runs, 68 RBI, .774 OPS, and 1.7 WAR.
Olney: White Sox among most desperate for starting pitching
This shouldn’t come as a shocker…
An executive said a few weeks ago about the high volume of teams looking for starting pitching: “I don’t know where they’re all going to find it.” With most of the best free agents signed, the teams seen by some agents as most in need (desperate?) at the moment: CWS and Twins.

Money they have don’t give away your propects remember the shields trade
This could pitentially be worse than the shields trade.
Somewhere, I think I hear Yasmani Grandal saying to himself “Detweiler, Cuthbert, Delmonico, Mazara. Not the names I thought I’d be surrounded with upon my arrival here. Gonzalez, OK if he has anything left in the tank….”
