We’ve got some good news and bad news to relay to you on this first Monday of November. Let’s start with the good…
Yolmer Sanchez wins Rawlings Gold Glove Award
On Sunday night, the winners of the 2019 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards were announced. The South Side’s very own Yolmer Sanchez came away as the award winner for American League second basemen. He managed to beat out two other finalists, Houston’s Jose Altuve and New York’s D.J. LeMahieu. With the award, Yolmer joins Nellie Fox as the only other White Sox second baseman to receive the honor.

Lucas Giolito was also nominated for a Gold Glove as an American League pitcher but lost to Seattle’s Mike Leake.
J.D. Martinez will not opt-out of Boston Red Sox contract
A huge bat will not be hitting the open market after J.D. Martinez decided he will not opt-out of his contract with Boston, per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

This is obviously very frustrating news for fans, especially after WEEI’s Rob Bradford reported last week that the White Sox appeared to be the top suitors for Martinez should he become a free agent. Now that he’s staying put with the Red Sox for the time being, the 32-year-old can earn $62.5 million over the next three years. He does still have additional opt-outs for after 2020 and 2021 so the White Sox could have another crack at him then should they still have the need for his services. They could also explore trading for the veteran, though there would likely be a steep asking price.

White Sox extend qualifying offer to Jose Abreu
First baseman Jose Abreu was tendered a qualifying offer today by the White Sox, per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. “Pito” will have 10 days to either accept or reject the offer. Should he reject it, all signs still seem to Abreu returning to the White Sox on some sort of deal for at least next season.
Ten players tendered qualifying offers today:
Josh Donaldson, Stephen Strasburg, Anthony Rendon, Gerrit Cole, Jose Abreu, Jake Odorizzi, Madison Bumgarner, Zack Wheeler, Will Smith, Marcell Ozuna.
