It wasn’t a pretty sight, and it looks like the White Sox may lose Yasmani Grandal for a considerable amount of time.
Grandal left today’s game with a knee injury in the seventh inning. He hurt it being thrown out at home plate on a base hit to center field by Elvis Andrus. Grandal was unable to leave the field under his own power, and the video of the injury is below.
Grandal has been struggling mightily throughout this season and has struggled through some knee injuries throughout the season. He has one year remaining on his contract with the White Sox.
In the meantime, should Grandal miss any significant amount of time, the White Sox will likely have to choose between Nick Ciuffo and Carlos Perez down in Charlotte to accompany Seby Zavala. Carlos Perez has had an excellent season so far, hitting .259/.317/.448, leading many to believe he might be the starting catcher of the future for the White Sox. Ciuffo was signed as an emergency option late in the offseason but has hit just .237/.260/.309 in Charlotte.
We will let you know about Grandal’s condition as more information becomes available.
