Yoán Moncada is back!
Prior to tonight’s series vs. the Astros, the White Sox announced they have reinstated their third basemen from the injured list after a brief rehab stint in Triple-A Charlotte. As a result, infielder Lenyn Sosa has been sent back down to the Queen City along with Alex Colomé after the righty reliever was designated for assignment two days ago.
Moncada, 27, was placed on the 10-day IL on April 11th after leaving a game with lower back soreness. The injury ended up being more serious than originally thought as it turned about to be a disc issue in his back causing him to miss a month of baseball.
Before the injury, Moncada was off to a hot start early in the season. He was slashing a line of .308/.325/.564 with a 143 wRC+ through the first nine games of the season. Moncada has not missed a beat in Charlotte either as he has gone 8-14 (.571 AVG) with 2 HR and 4 RBIs. The White Sox will be happy to have his bat and glove back in the lineup as Jake Burger has been on the 10-day IL a little over a week ago.
Moncada is in the lineup tonight batting fourth against the Astros and will play third base.
As for Sosa, the 23-year-old has continued to struggle when it comes to adapting to the major leagues. He is currently hitting a mere .132/.145/.221 with a -9 wRC+. Hopefully, a more extended stay in Charlotte will help him rebuild his confidence at the plate.
Colomé, 34, is being sent back down to the Triple-A affiliate as no team decided to pick him up after the Sox DFA’d him just recently. This comes as no surprise as Colomé went 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA with two strikeouts in three innings pitched for the Sox this season.

Yes, until his back starts acting up again. Moncada has the sane issue that cut short Joe Crede’s career. It just a matter of time before he is back on the DL again.
